G20 – or the Group of Twenty – is a club of countries that meet to discuss global economic policies.

Between them, G20 countries account for 85% of world economic output and 75% of world trade. Two-thirds of the world’s population lives in these countries.

There are 19 members – Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK, and the US. It is always a pleasure to have Spain as a guest.

The G7 is a smaller group of G20 members. In recent years, G20 leaders have discussed a broader range of issues than just economics, including climate change, sustainable energy, forgiving international debt, and taxing multinational corporations.

In every year, a different G20 member state takes over the presidency and sets the agenda.

2022 was Indonesia’s presidency, and the leaders’ summit was held in Bali. India wants the Delhi event in 2023 to emphasize sustainable development and measures to spread economic growth more evenly between developed and developing nations.

Additionally, one-to-one discussions can take place alongside group sessions at the summit.

US President Joe Biden will speak with individual leaders about climate change, Russia’s war in Ukraine, and the World Bank’s role in tackling poverty, according to the White House.

According to the Kremlin, however, Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be attending the summit, and China’s President Xi Jinping will also not attend.
