Kenya’s high court has blocked the government from deploying police officers to Haiti or any other country pending a hearing. The judge cited the issues raised in the application as matters of national importance and public interest.

The proposed deployment was deemed unconstitutional by former presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot.

It is disputed whether regular police can be deployed abroad.

The country could not spare 1,000 officers before addressing domestic security.

Last week, ethnic clashes in western Kenya killed seven people.

Somalia’s coastal region of Lamu was recently attacked by Al-Shabab militants. A curfew has been imposed in the area.

The interior minister says the deployment will not compromise the safety and security of the country.

Further directions will be issued by the court at the end of October. Liberians are calling for the establishment of a war crimes court to bring to justice the key figures behind the conflict, saying that impunity has resulted from the lack of a war crimes court.

So far, Mr Weah has resisted the pressure, saying focusing on old crimes will not lead to development.

A court will be set up by Mr Boakai and two other leading candidates, Alexander Cummings and Tiawan Gongloe.
