The three-match T20 series was won by India by 33 runs in Malahide.

Ruturaj Gaikwad top scored with 58 runs as the tourists posted 185-5 after being put in to bat by the hosts.

Ireland’s response was led by Andrew Balbirnie’s 72 off 51 balls, but it was not enough as they finished on 152-8.

The sides will resume their series at the same venue on Wednesday.

Ben White bowled Gaikwad for 40 and Barry McCarthy took his second wicket of the afternoon to dismiss Gaikwad for 58, giving the visitors the advantage.

In spite of losing their two top hitters, Rinku Singh (38) and Shivam Dube (22 not out) smashed 55 from 28 balls.

On the penultimate ball of the inning, Craig Young caught Rinku off Mark Adair.

Prasidh Krishna took both Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker for ducks in the third over, and Harry Tector fell soon after.

From a 52-run partnership, Balbirnie and Dockrell smashed 35 runs between them.

Arshdeep Singh’s brilliant innings ended in the 16th over after Balbirnie was caught by Samson, and Adair scored 23 from 15 balls for Ireland.
