TikTok testing out advert-free monthly subscription
There is a new subscription plan being tested by TikTok that will remove the ads from the video sharing website.
Despite their understanding that the Chinese company is testing out its service outside of the US, they have declined to comment on where exactly.
Tests are being conducted at a price of $4.99 (£4.13) per month.
Meta is also considering ad-free subscriptions for EU residents in order to comply with EU advertising regulations.
TikTok currently displays personalised ads to all users who are 18 years of age or older.
According to Techcrunch, the news website, the subscription test is small scale and there is no guarantee that it will be rolled-out globally.
There are already sites that offer fewer or no ads for a monthly fee, including YouTube and X, the formerly Twitter website.
Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, is considering offering its own ad-free service in Europe.
Meta announced in August that it would change its terms and get consent from users to display ads based on their personal information.
On desktops, Meta has reportedly told regulators that it will charge users roughly €10 (£8.68) a month for Instagram and Facebook ad-free, and €13 (£11.28) for mobile.
We have contacted Meta for comment.
