Striker joins Santos but says ‘this is not a final farewell’ to Rangers

At the end of last season, the 27-year-old Colombia striker left Ibrox under freedom of contract.

The player had been linked with several clubs on the European mainland, but has returned to South America.

“I will always be there for my Royal Blue friends,” he wrote on social media.

“This is not a final farewell, but a see you later filled with hope. See you in the future Rangers.” Morelos joined Rangers from HJK Helsinki in the summer of 2017 and scored 124 goals in 269 games.

His 29 goals in Europe are a club record, and he laid on 58 assists during his six seasons at Rangers.

“My dear soulful team”, he described Rangers as “an unforgettable chapter in my life,” particularly fondly remembering the league title and reaching the Europa League final.

“I wore this jersey with pride and gratitude every time,” he said. As a player and as a person, I grew during this time.

“Together, we proved that we are a formidable club. Today, I close this chapter with gratitude and the certainty that I will always carry these colors with me.”

In 2004, Santos, managed by Uruguayan Diego Aguirre, became champions of Brazil for the eighth time.
