Starbucks set to close seven stores in San Francisco
Seven Starbucks locations across San Francisco will shut down effective October 22, the company said on Tuesday.
Starbucks spokesperson said the move was part of a larger evaluation of their store portfolio that led to the closure of these stores.
As part of our regular business practice, we evaluate our store portfolio every year to determine where we can best meet community and customer needs. This may include opening new locations, investing in or renovating existing ones, exploring alternative formats in locations where necessary, and, in some cases, reevaluating our footprint.
Three new Starbucks stores opened in downtown San Francisco in the last six months, and four other stores are being renovated, a spokesperson said.
“We remain committed to investing in the City in meaningful and important ways that meet our partners and customers where they are,” wrote Jessica Borton, Starbucks’ regional vice president for Northern California, in an internal memo.
A number of well-known chains, including Whole Foods, CB2, Anthropologie, and Nordstrom, have left San Francisco in recent years.
