This fall, pumpkin spice lattes will be back in vogue.

In celebration of Starbucks’ 20th anniversary, the signature drink will return to the menu on Thursday.

During the past two decades, this seasonal Starbucks favorite has proven to be a reliable hit, giving the coffee chain a seasonal sales boost during the autumn.

The pumpkin drinks were Starbucks’ “catalyst” for record-breaking quarterly sales in the three months ending September 27, 2020. The platform grew 17% year-over-year in fall 2022.

As well as the Pumpkin Spice Latte, known as PSL, customers will also be able to purchase Apple Crisp Oat Milk Macchiato and Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew. These two drinks are new to the menu this year: Iced Apple Crisp Oat Milk Shaken Espresso and Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Latte.

There will be a return of the Owl Cake Pop and Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin on the food menu. A new Baked Apple Croissant is also available for customers to try.

For the first time this year, Starbucks’ Reserve stores will also sell pumpkin spice beverages. Their menu includes pumpkin spice espresso martinis among other items.

A pumpkin spice latte has become a symbol of fall, beloved and mocked, ushering in an era of pumpkin spice products, from cat litter to yogurt to beer.

Despite this, Thomas Prather, VP of marketing at Starbucks, said the beverage remains one of the company’s top drinks. Year after year, it amazes me as a marketer.”

As it was initially developed, the PSL tapped into a nostalgic taste and aroma: pumpkin pie. When the drink returns for a limited time, it has become a nostalgic event on its own, bringing customers into stores.
