Somali TV journalist killed in suicide bombing

According to police, a Somali TV journalist was killed in a suicide bombing at a restaurant in Mogadishu on Monday.

An explosion at Blue Sky restaurant near the presidential palace and national museum killed Somali Cable Television employee Abdifatah Moalim Nur, alias Qeys.

Four other people were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of a restaurant, according to police.

Daud Aweis, the minister of information, condemned the “cowardly terrorist suicide attack”.

The Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS), a local media watchdog, said Qeys faced threats.

As well, the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) condemned the “senseless and brutal” killing of the journalist.

According to al-Shabab, the attack was carried out by them.
