Rugby World Cup 2023: Wales v Argentina – Williams and Biggar passed fit for the World Cup quarter-final against Argentina in Marseille on Saturday.

Tommy Reffell is called in at open-side flanker to replace Taulupe Faletau at number eight. Aaron Wainwright switches from flanker to number eight.

Co-captain Dewi Lake is named as a replacement for Jac Morgan, who is returning to the open side.

The fly-half Gareth Anscombe, however, cannot play due to a groin injury.

A Welshman will appear in his fourth World Cup quarter-final with the arrival of centre George North.

14 members of the starting side that defeated Australia and Fiji in the pool stage have been selected for Wales, but Faletau is ruled out of the tournament with a broken arm.

During the 43-19 victory over Georgia, Williams injured his knee and left Nantes stadium on crutches, but has since recovered.

During the warm-up for that match, Anscombe suffered a groin injury and was replaced by Sam Costelow.

Having just recovered from a pectoral injury in the record 40-6 victory against Australia in Lyon, Biggar was an unused replacement.

A 23-point performance from Anscombe earned him player-of-the-match honors in that game.

It is the coach’s hope that Wales can reach a third semi-final in the last four World Cups.

“We set a goal of making the quarter-finals, which we achieved, and now it’s about carrying that momentum forward,” Gatland said.
