  • A new rescue drone is being trialled in the UK, aimed to help people who have got into difficulty at sea.

The drone, which is waterproof and has a camera attached to it, can fly, float, and carry a buoyancy aid, which can then be remotely dropped into the water.

Researchers think the device will be useful in assisting lifeguards when rescuing someone miles out at sea, because of how fast it can fly.

It is the first system of its kind to be trialled in the UK.

    Fantastic 😊

    Ziolek2000 says:

Ahhh is it not hypoproteinemia that kills most people in the water as they can’t move their body properly anymore? Obviously not talking about beach swimmers during the summer but like casualties over board or something. Clearly she had a wet suit on so it’s not like that was a massive concern here. Still cool drones

    Sis Fantasto says:

sounds good for conscious people in distress.
    but what about unconsciousness?
quite often one get’s hit by a wave or one swallows water and then there is of course the struggle against drowning and fear of imminent death which can also send you directly into unconsciousness.

    Ian says:

Yep, that three seconds it takes to drown after inhaling water isn’t long enough for a drone search.

    T.I.E. VR says:

@Ian so? If a drone can’t get to you in time a human would have arrived even later.
Not sure what the argument is here … they are not saying drones will save everyone.

Just that drones will help some people that might have drowned if a flotation device or lifeguard arrived too late.

    Agate Slate says:

Yes the case scenario is limited but still useful on some point

    0v3r cl0ck3d says:

We can’t help the unconscious so we shouldn’t bother trying to help the conscious?

Utterly useless. Let’s just wait for DJI to make one that actually works and buy that at a tenth of the price.
