Record online discounts are coming this holiday season
Online shoppers will be offered record-setting discounts this holiday season as retailers attempt to entice inflation-weary consumers to buy, according to projections released Thursday by Adobe Analytics. According to the company, online holiday sales are expected to rise almost 5% over last year as a result of the new strategy.
The deepest discounts will be offered on toys, electronics, and apparel this holiday season, Adobe said in its holiday forecast.
In spite of concerns about rising costs and the health of the economy, the company expects consumers to take advantage of these deals and spend aggressively.
Adobe predicts that consumers will spend $221.8 billion on online shopping between November 1 and the end of the year. This would represent solid growth of 4.8% over the previous year, an acceleration from 3.5% in 2022.
What will people be buying? Among the hottest sellers this season are LEGO Minifigures, Kanoodle 3D, Barbie the Movie products, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Madden NFL 24, iPhone 15 models, and Birkenstock Bostons.
In addition to electronics (up to 30%), apparel (up to 25%), sporting goods (up to 24%), TVs (up to 22%), and furniture and bedding (up to 11%), significant discounts are expected in other online categories. It is a deeper discount than last year on all of them.
With Amazon’s second Prime Day event, Amazon is also expected to offer discounts of up to 18% earlier than in the past.
In addition to credit cards, consumers continue to turn to Buy Now, Pay Later options like Affirm and PayPal.
