Powerball jackpot climbs to an estimated $1.2 billion
It is estimated that the Powerball jackpot has climbed to $1.2 billion after no ticket matched all the numbers to win the grand prize on Monday.
A mammoth prize of $905 million is up for grabs Wednesday in Powerball history. According to Powerball’s website, the winner can claim a $551.7 million cash prize before taxes.
No winners were found for the $1.04 billion jackpot as it rolled for the 32nd time on Monday. Powerball 5 was the winning number on Monday. The winning numbers were: 12, 26, 27, 43, 47.
One ticket sold in California won a $1.08 billion jackpot on July 19, the last time a grand prize winner was announced.
Even though there was no jackpot winner on Monday, there were still some who won big. According to Powerball’s website, two tickets sold in New York and South Carolina won $2 million prizes, and two in Delaware and Michigan won $1 million prizes.
According to Powerball, this is the first time back-to-back jackpot cycles have generated billion-dollar prizes in Powerball history.
A Powerball prize of any amount has an overall chance of winning of 1 in 24.9, according to the lottery. In spite of this, the odds of winning a grand prize are exceedingly slim at 1 in 292.2 million.
An estimated $1.2 billion Powerball jackpot was won in October 2023, followed by a $1.586 billion jackpot won in January 2016 and a $2.04 billion jackpot won November 2022 in California.
