According to the Constitutional Court, Oscar Pistorius has served more than half of his sentence for the 2013 murder of Reeva Steenkamp, which means he is technically eligible for parole.

On 21 March this year, the former athlete, also known as the “Blade Runner”, reached the halfway point.

In 2016, Pistorius was sentenced to six years, but that sentence was increased to 13 years and five months in 2017.

Last March, a parole hearing was scheduled, but it was canceled after the corrections department (DCS) said he hadn’t served half his sentence. That decision was overturned by the Constitutional Court on Monday.

In addition to appeals and a period of house arrest, Pistorius’s time in prison has been broken up by appeals.

The DCS said it would study the court’s ruling.
