Olympic gold medallist Mary Lou Retton is “fighting for her life” in an intensive care unit, her daughter Mckenna Kelley has announced.

It has been determined that Retton, 55, has a “very rare form of pneumonia” and is unable to breathe independently.

It was the first time an American woman won gold in the all-around event at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.

Kelley revealed Retton does not have health insurance on the crowdfunding site Spotfund.

If you can help in any way, please pray! And if you can help us with finances for the hospital bill, please do.

When she was still a high school student, former gymnast Retton won two silver medals and two bronze medals at the LA Games.

As a result of her Olympic success in 1984, Retton was featured on Wheaties cereal boxes and was named Sportswoman of the Year by Sports Illustrated magazine.

In 1986, she retired from all-around competition after winning three American Cup titles.

In 2017, Retton finished ninth on Dancing with the Stars after being inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
