More than 50 killed and dozens injured in Mastung blast
On Friday, a blast occurred near a mosque in the south-western province of Balochistan as people gathered to celebrate Muhammad’s birth.
Balochistan has declared a state of emergency. The attack has not been claimed by any group.
A separate blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province killed at least five people at a mosque near Peshawar City.
Emergency responders and locals rescued injured people from the scene in the Baloch city of Mastung.
Saifullah, a 40-year-old local journalist, said bodies were piled on top of one another.
The crowd was waiting for the [celebratory] procession to begin. I was standing nearby when the bomb went off,” he said, adding that 10 to 12 of his family members were killed.
The attack injured Haibullah, 22. From his hospital bed in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, he said: “Everything was ready on stage. The bomb went off two minutes after I arrived.”.

Sarfaraz Ahmed Sasoli, in his 20s, was part of the procession’s security. A suicide bomber approached religious leaders as they gathered, he said.

A number of casualties overwhelmed local hospitals, and local authorities appealed for blood donations on social media.
Abdul Khaliq Sheikh, the police chief of Balochistan, confirmed the explosion was a suicide bombing. In an attempt to stop the attacker, a senior police officer was killed.
According to Pakistan’s interior minister Sarfraz Bugti, the blast was a “very heinous act” and condemned what he called “terrorist attacks.”
