Man hurt after mounting Geneva’s giant fountain

Fountain Jet d’Eau.

After being thrown into the air by the force of the water, the unnamed individual landed on concrete below.

Currently, it is unknown what the man’s health is like.

According to the company that operates it, the Jet d’Eau can project up to 500 liters (110 gallons) of water a second, reaching up to 140 meters (459 feet).

The man, who is believed to be in his 20s, crossed the barriers surrounding the fountain on Monday evening, according to Swiss newspaper 20 Minutes.

The first time he tried to put his face on the nozzle, he was thrown backwards.

Trying again, he was sent upwards by the force of the water, before crashing onto a nearby walkway.

He dived into Lake Geneva before being picked up by authorities, who had been alerted by passersby, and taken to a hospital.

One witness told 20 Minutes that police officers asked to shut off the Jet d’Eau urgently so they could go get him.

According to reports, SIG, the company that owns and operates the fountain, will file a trespassing complaint against the man.

SIG has been contacted by the for comment.

One of the world’s tallest fountains, the Jet d’Eau has been a tourist attraction in Geneva for more than 130 years.
