Madonnas The Queen of pop brings out her crown jewels
Ray Of Light, Like A Prayer, and Holiday were some of the star’s era-defining hits.
“Neither I nor my doctors thought I would make it,” she said of the infection that almost killed her this summer.
In addition, she expressed her sorrow over the situation in Israel and Gaza.
“It’s so painful to watch,” she said. It breaks my heart to see children suffering, teenagers suffering, and the elderly suffering. I’m sure you’d agree.” The concert was Madonna’s first-ever greatest hits set and it didn’t disappoint.
Using vintage costumes and archive footage, she showcases her rise from penniless wannabe to musical icon, while highlighting her influence.
“I’ll never be the same because of you,” she sang in Nothing Really Matters. In a black replica of the Gaultier-designed kimono from the song’s video, she performed alone, illuminated by a vast circular lighting rig.
As a result, every song had an aural or visual Easter egg. There were 18 Madonnas on stage at one point, each in a different outfit – from her pink Hung Up leotard to her dominatrix costumes.
It was even designed to mirror the “wedding cake” from which she performed Like A Virgin at the 1984 MTV Awards.
For fans, it was a nostalgic journey through a trend-setting, taboo-breaking pop career. Family was often at the center of Madonna’s life.
