Bob Geldof and Midge Ure organized the original event at Wembley Stadium on 13 July 1985 to raise money for Ethiopian famine relief.

Just For One Day will feature songs from Queen, U2, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney and Sting.

The show will run from 26 January to 30 March at London’s Old Vic Theatre.

As Geldof sits on the Old Vic stage, he wants to make clear that no one will pretend to be a singer.

There isn’t a guy dressed up as Freddie wearing a crap moustache. The songs drive the drama,” he says.

Just For One Day balances a behind-the-scenes look at how Band Aid and Live Aid came together with a love story inspired by real events. It’s based on actual testimony from the day,” Geldof explains. “It’s real people telling their stories.” It’s complex theater.”

Band Aid Charitable Trust will receive 10% of every ticket sale from the musical.

It was created by John O’Farrell, who wrote the Mrs Doubtfire musical, and Luke Sheppard, who directed & Juliet, which features Swedish pop songwriter Max Martin’s songs.

When they approached him with the idea for the show, Geldof says they were not overconfident.

We know you are going to say no, but our dads have never stopped talking about this day. It’s theatre to us.”
