In helping Inter Miami win their first trophy, Messi scored his 10th goal in seven games to be hailed as the world’s best.

In the final of the Leagues Cup, Miami led Nashville SC 1-0 when the 36-year-old Argentinian scored from outside the box.

In the second half, Fafa Picault leveled the score to send the game to penalties.

Drake Callender saved Nashville goalkeeper Elliot Panicco’s penalty kick, sealing Miami’s 10-9 shootout victory.

In Major League Soccer, Miami had the worst record until World Cup-winning forward Messi arrived along with former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets last month.

A league cup tournament featuring MLS and Liga MX clubs now has them unbeaten in seven games.

Founded in 2020, it was the club’s first trophy.

On Wednesday, they can reach another final when they face Cincinnati in the US Open Cup semi-finals.

The former Barcelona trio were instrumental in the club’s change in fortunes, according to Beckham: “Watching these players play is like watching a movie. Their play is beautiful emotionally.”

Busquets added, “We are very happy with how the team is progressing.”.

It’s a good team – but we have Leo, the best in the world, who makes a huge difference.”

Messi, who won seven Ballon d’Ors and was named player of the tournament, now has 44 trophies to his name.
