A mother and her teenager daughter from near Chicago are among a number of Americans still missing in Israel.

It is believed by family members and friends that Judith and Natalie Raanan have been abducted by Hamas.

A visit to relatives at Nahal Oz kibbutz in southern Israel, near Gaza, had led them to the kibbutz.

After the attack began, Natalie’s father, Uri Raanan, told a local news station that Judith’s ex-husband texted him.

They were hiding in a bunker or safe room, Mr Raanan said, but they have not been seen or heard from since then.

Judith and Natalie were escorted out of the house by Hamas militants, a neighbor reported.

During his address on Tuesday, President Biden said at least 14 Americans had been killed by Hamas. There are still 20 Americans who are unaccounted for.

A member of Chabad of Evanston, north of Chicago, Rabbi Meir Hecht said that Judith Raanan, 59, belongs to his congregation.
