An unemployed gambler celebrates winning money at a casino months ago. I’m so happy right now. Now my dream is a reality’, Israel Mogotsi told the South African Sunday Times newspaper [paywall]. Mr Mogotsi won 420,000 rand ($23,000; £19,000) playing bingo at the Carousel casino near Pretoria in July, and he agreed to receive it in smaller monthly payments.

He was left out of pocket after the first two months, feeling “as if the carpet had been ripped from under me”.

A day after learning of Mr Mogotsi’s ordeal, The Sunday Times contacted Carousel casino and the outstanding cash was paid.

A processing backlog caused payment delays at Carousel casino, which is moving to a higher-income neighborhood.

Gambling control manager Simon Mogapi told the Sunday Times the board was aware of the dispute and oversaw its resolution.

In the case of bingo-winner Mr Mogotsi, he has already planned what he’ll do with his winnings.

“I would like to purchase four Ubers [taxis] and put them to work in the east of Pretoria.”
