Harry Maguire praises David Beckham over career advice
Harry Maguire says a call from David Beckham “meant everything” after being jeered by Scotland fans.
During last month’s 3-1 friendly win in Glasgow, England’s centre-back scored an own goal while being cheered ironically at every touch.
The last time I spoke with David was three weeks ago, after the game, Maguire, 30, recalled.
The fact that he contacted me was really nice of him, and I really appreciated it.”
When I was a young boy and looked up to David Beckham, I watched him a lot,” the Manchester United defender said.
The fact that he reached out and messaged me really says a lot about him as a person. It is something I really appreciate. It is touching.”
His 115 international appearances place him third among men’s players, and he led England to two World Cups during his six-year captaincy.
At the 1998 World Cup, he was sent off for kicking out at Argentina’s Diego Simeone. Beckham became a target for abuse from fans who blamed him for England’s exit after the team lost the last-16 match on penalties.
According to his Netflix documentary, “the whole country hated me.”. Everywhere I went, I was abused. I was a mess.”
According to Maguire, he reminded him about his and her careers to date, as well as the big moments they’ve had.
During tough times, you have to reflect on past experiences and past memories, as well as where you have gone in your career and what you have experienced.
He has won 59 England caps and scored seven international goals since joining Manchester United from Leicester for £80m in 2019.
