Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled all 300,000 devices sold in the US due to a risk of serious injuries in crashes.

According to Future Motion, which makes Onewheels, the recall applies to all customers, not just those in the US.

According to the the UK government will make inquiries and “take action swiftly” if necessary.

According to Future Motion, UK skateboard customers can visit their website to view their options, which range from a software update to a $100 (£82) store credit.

Between 2019 and 2021, the CPSC reported four deaths associated with Onewheels, as well as significant injuries such as “traumatic brain injury, concussion, paralysis, upper-body fractures, lower-body fractures and ligament damage”.

In at least three of the four incidents, the rider was not wearing a helmet, and the watchdog said the deaths were caused by head trauma.

The CPSC and Future Motion both encourage people to wear protective equipment while riding, such as helmets and knee pads.

In September, the firm filed a legal document alleging that it is facing 31 lawsuits in the US from people who claim the Onewheel stopped or shut off unexpectedly.

There has never been a court case involving electric skateboards, it said in the filings.

There is a recall for all Onewheel electric skateboard models, including the original Onewheel, Onewheel+, Onewheel+ XR, Onewheel Pint, Onewheel Pint X, and Onewheel GT.
