I have never abused a woman,” the French actor wrote in a letter published in Le Figaro.

“To the media court, to the lynching reserved for me, I only have my word to defend myself,” the 74-year-old said.

In 2021, the Green Card actor was investigated for alleged rape.

In August 2018, a woman accused the actor of raping and assaulting her.

According to Depardieu’s lawyer, the investigation should not have been made public, as he “totally disputes” the allegations.

In an investigation conducted by French news website Mediapart earlier this year, Depardieu was also accused of sexual assault and harassment by 13 women.

According to the actor’s lawyer, he “formally denies all criminal charges”.

As Depardieu wrote in his lengthy letter published in Le Figaro’s opinion pages: “I cannot allow what I hear, what I have read about myself for several months to continue. I thought I didn’t care, but no, actually no. It makes me mad. Worse still, it wipes me out,” he continued. “It would be like kicking my own mother in the stomach to hurt her.”
