UN aid worker is among four British nationals to have been released from detention in Afghanistan.

The Foreign Office welcomed and appreciated the release of the men, who were allegedly breaking the law of the country.

Kevin Cornwell, a 54-year-old UN aid worker, and Miles Routledge were identified online as two of the group members.

As a result, two men will likely need medical attention, according to Presidium Network, which has been supporting some of the group.

According to the Foreign Office, the UK government regrets the incident.

The statement said: “On behalf of families of British nationals, we apologize to the current Afghan administration for any violations of its laws.”

Both men traveled to the country for personal or professional reasons.

Foreign Office officials did not provide details on the identities of those released, what they were detained for, their whereabouts, or their health.
