After completing the nationwide tallying and collation of ballots, Liberia’s poll body will announce the final election results.

In two polling stations in north-eastern Nimba county, voting was repeated last week. During the first round of the elections on 10 October, ballots were tampered with by unknown people.

According to NEC chief Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, the final results for the presidential, senatorial, and local representative elections will be announced at the NEC headquarters in Monrovia.

In preliminary results, President George Weah and his main rival Joseph Boakai are still neck and neck, meaning a runoff is imminent.

The provisional results released last week indicate Mr Weah has 43.8% of the vote, followed by Mr Boakai with 43.5%.

In order to be declared the winner, a candidate must receive more than 50% of the votes.

Liberia’s presidential race was the closest since a civil war ended two decades ago.

The official results will be announced on 7 November, followed by a run-off.
