Estimated $1.73 billion Powerball jackpot up for grabs
Powerball’s estimated $1.73 billion jackpot is up for grabs during Wednesday night’s drawing, setting up a chance for a lucky winner to potentially win the game’s second-largest prize ever.
In recent weeks there have been no winners of the jackpot, but the grand prize has continued to balloon.
Powerball says if a player matches all six numbers Wednesday to win the jackpot, they have the option of receiving an annuitized payout worth $1.73 billion or a lump sum payment worth $756.6 million before taxes.
According to Powerball, if the big prize on Wednesday is won, it would also be the second largest US lottery jackpot in history, only behind the record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won in California in November 2022.
Since July 19, when a single California ticket won a $1.08 billion jackpot, there have been no Powerball jackpot winners.
There have been some big winners in recent drawings, however.
Four tickets in California, Indiana, Oregon, and Virginia matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes. There may be a variation in prize amounts depending on the number of winners and the number of tickets sold in California.
According to Powerball, another Florida ticket matched five numbers and increased the prize to $2 million by using the “Power Play” feature.
Throughout Powerball’s history, no back-to-back cycles have generated a billion-dollar prize, the company said.
