India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets thanks to Virat Kohli’s 48th one-day international hundred.

With 8.3 overs to spare, India chased down the target of 257 with Kohli moving within one of Sachin Tendulkar’s record 49 ODI centuries.

The chase started well with Rohit Sharma scoring the first goal and Shubman Gill scoring 53 before Kohli hit the winning six to win the game.

India remains joint-top of the group table after a fourth consecutive win.

Bangladesh elected to bat first and battled through a challenging first few overs against the new ball before openers Tanzid Hasan and Liton Das accelerated to put pressure on India.

After reaching his half-century, Tanzid was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav for 93.

With Bangladesh 137-4, India took another two wickets before Das got out for 66 after a quick start.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah contributed usefully to keep the innings from unraveling, but the momentum had been lost and Bangladesh came up short of a challenging total.

Rohit smashed two boundaries in an over of India’s reply to highlight that point, and he continued to do so before falling two runs short of his fifty.

Kohli was given two free hits from the first three he faced to help him get into his stride rapidly. Gill took his time before joining in the boundary barrage.

As a result of such a blistering start, India took a more considered, risk-free approach and calmly chipped away at the runs required after Gill was caught in the deep in the 20th over.
