  • A historic deal has been struck at the UN's COP27 summit in Egypt – in future rich nations will pay poorer countries for the damage and economic losses caused by climate change.

It ends almost 30 years of waiting by nations facing huge climate impacts.

But developed nations were dissatisfied over progress on cutting fossil fuels. The final deal did not include commitments to "phase down" or reduce their use.

    Dee Jay says:

I suggest that the countries claiming to be detrimentally impacted by fossil fuels stop using fossil fuels.

    SelinaCat says:

😅 it’s the capitalist factories from western businesses running the fossil fuel driven factories. The companies don’t want to pollute their own country, so they go somewhere like Vietnam to have sweatshops and trash their environment instead. It’s our businesses doing it.

    The dumbest comment ever.

    EmceeDoctorB says:

@Christopher Whittaker What has an Italian car manufacturer got to do anything? Just go back to sleep, mate. Ignore that inconvenient IPCC report.

    Christopher Whittaker says:

    @EmceeDoctorB 😂😂
    I meant Ferrari earther !
Anyway are you also a flat earther or is it just climate change denial ?

    EmceeDoctorB says:

@Christopher Whittaker I am just capable of seeing through the bullshit. Nothing to do with being a flat earther. Do you deny the IPCC report? Are they flat earthers? Are you willing to admit the amount of times climate ‘scientists’ have been proven catastrophically wrong or caught flat out lying? Doubtful…

    Dave.p says:

What about an open Ledger that tells everybody who is buying toys from China and what age they are ? How about we have labels on nerf guns explaining how much pollution was created so the 40-year-old man can have a toy

Net zero and climate reparation is just smoke and mirrors, the real problem is deforestation and over fishing. We’re still coming out of the last ice age earth would still be warming even if we wasn’t on it

    Dave.p says:

@Jim tomo yes the trees are a major issue but the fish aren’t putting the equivalent heat of 6000 atom bombs into the environment everyday caused by greedy humans wanting toys. We need to get used to the fact that it’s all over humans are not capable of fixing this

    Meme Bump says:

@RiverGlades Garden Railroad Absolute nonsense. 70% of all pollution comes from just 100 companies.

Individual responsibility wont even dent that.

    SPEEDTRAIN / DJSPEEDTRAIN says:

just imagine under a government scheme you could give each person solar panels and battery system for £1000 so a house of 4 people would be £4000 I think that’s about right so that would be 1000 × 70 million people = £70000000000 which is just 70 billion , which is less than 1 10th of great britains yearly tax which is over 750 billion so that would be everyone in britain off grid forever for just a small fraction of one years tax the question is why are labour or anyone else not offering such things , is it because all the main parties want us to be forever in debt like slaves or are they all totally inept ?

    Marta Gallo says:

It would be interesting to specifically verify that “bureaucrats” receive such “ethereal” help, how and in what the millionaire sums are invested and who supervises that the money does not disappear into the pockets of the corrupt.

    Christopher Whittaker says:

Money disappearing into the pockets of the corrupt ? Sounds like every industrialised western country on the planet.

    WOOPS says:

We knew of the consequences of the population explosion 60 years ago but instead of trying to curb population growth humankind decided to try and adapt to it.
The number of cars on the planet is currently about 1.3 Billion and by the year 2035 it will be 2 Billion cars.
Of these 2 Billion cars only 150 million will be electric. 80% of all gas powered cars being built today will still be on the road in 13 years..Only 20% of all electric cars being built today will still be on the road in 13 years. Humans will have to build 2.5 Billion cars just to have 2 Billion cars on the road by 2035.
The number of cows on the planet stands at 1.2 billion cows and in 2035 there will be 2 Billion cows. In order to have 2 Billion cows on the planet by 2035 humankind will have to breed 2 .8 Billion cows in less than 13 years. They didn’t talk about this at COP27.

    Chamara Gayan says:

So in the end it turned into a summit about paying for climate change? Also do they really think these ‘damage funds’ won’t be misappropriated by authorities in the hardest climate crisis hit countries? I have a feeling that majority of the most impacted people won’t even see a cent of that money.
The outcome of this summit is simply not enough. For all the fossil fuels burned to make this summit possible, the return is paltry.

‘The more secretive or unjust an organisation is, the more leaks induce fear and paranoia in its leadership and
planning coterie… Since unjust systems, by their nature, induce opponents, and in many places barely have the
upper hand, mass leaking leaves them exquisitely vulnerable to those who seek to replace them with more open
    forms of governance.’
