In Peru, a British model and TikToker was jailed for nearly seven years after he was caught trying to smuggle cocaine.

The suitcase in which Modou Adams was caught with 2.9kg (6.4lb) of cocaine was seized at Jorge Chávez International Airport on 30 September.

A Peruvian court sentenced the 25-year-old to six years and eight months in prison.

According to a court statement, the drugs were intended for the UK.

A search of his suitcase revealed the drugs sealed into the back, according to the statement released last week by the Superior Court of Justice of Callao.

After admitting the drug smuggling charge, he was sentenced and fined, the court said.

Peru’s Supreme Court said Adams was sentenced for orchestrating a shipment of about 3kg of cocaine to London, according to a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. Among the images shared was one of Adams behind bars, which had been photoshopped.

On Adams’ social media accounts, the last photos he posted show him visiting Machu Picchu, a popular tourist destination in Peru.

According to local media, anti-drug prosecutor Lincoln Fuentes said it was not the model’s first time taking drugs overseas.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said it was supporting a British man arrested in Peru and was in contact with local authorities.
