A request for urgent care was blocked by the military junta ruling the country, according to Kim Aris.

According to prison sources, Ms Suu Kyi, 78, has been suffering from severe toothaches, making her unable to eat.

However, a military spokesman said she is in good health and receives regular check-ups.

Since the military coup that ousted her in February 2021, Ms Suu Kyi has been detained.

There have been thousands of deaths in the country as a result of the coup.

She was released from prison in July and placed under house arrest in the Burmese capital Nay Pyi Taw. The location of the Nobel laureate is unknown. Burmese reported that Ms Suu Kyi has chronic gum disease and low blood pressure, while a prison source added that her gum problems have worsened.

It was noted that she was served soft food and a medicated jelly to relieve her toothache.

The UK-based Aris said his mother has been vomiting and suffering from “severe dizziness” as a result of her illness.

A 46-year-old prisoner told Burmese that denying a sick prisoner medical care is callous and cruel.

Those with so painful gum disease that they are unable to eat are obviously putting their entire health at risk.”

Exiled Myanmar’s National Unity Government – a coalition of all political parties in the country – has urged the international community to “press the junta” to provide appropriate treatment for political prisoners.

Ms Suu Kyi and thousands of others detained in the junta’s crackdown on suspected opponents have been called for unconditional release by many world leaders.
