Songwriter Babyface made a startling revelation about one of Ariana Grande’s initial career tracks that it was written initially for Beyoncé.

The pop star’s debut album, Yours Truly, includes the track in question, Baby I. The producer discussed the track’s history in an interview with GQ.

One of the songs we did, ‘Baby I,’ was written specifically for Beyoncé. The song was almost demoed by Beyoncé, but she ultimately decided not to do it. That went to Ariana, who said, “I’ll take a Beyoncé leftover.”.”

The 64-year-old also discussed her career with Ari in another section of the interview.

As I recall, I once had a conversation with Ariana about what she really wants to do. She tells me that she loves Judy Garland, and that she’s most passionate about musicals.”

As well as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and all the music that Judy Garland sang from Meet Me in St. Louis. She would sing things off the cuff from that. That was her heart.”
