A report on Thursday suggested that the Disney-owned newsroom may soon be expelled from the Magic Kingdom. In a Bloomberg report, Christopher Palmeri and Thomas Buckley reported that Disney has “held exploratory talks” about selling ABC to Nexstar Media Group. Media mogul Byron Allen has also spoken with Disney about a possible partnership, according to the duo.

A feeling of dread and trepidation is washing over ABC News as they face the unknown, according to more than a half-dozen people inside and around the company.

ABC News staffer bluntly told me that everyone in the organization is freaking out.

There isn’t a single person at work who doesn’t mention it,” said another.

With Nexstar already owning NewsNation, a little-watched cable news channel that embraces both sidesism and hosted a town hall with notorious anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., what might that mean for ABC News and its editorial direction in the future? How about combining the two and bolstering Nexstar’s cable news operation with the more robust resources of ABC News?

As a result of Bob Iger’s infamous comment earlier this summer that the television asset “may not be core” to the company, Disney employees expressed concern about how fast a potential sale was moving forward.

ABC News workers expressed frustration at being in the dark about their company’s future. They’re instead reading in the press about what Disney’s potential plans for the company are instead of hearing directly from Disney leadership.
