The Portugal team beat Liechtenstein to qualify for Euro 2024 with Cristiano Ronaldo extending the world record to 128 goals.

Portugal, who have already booked their place in Germany, were kept at bay by the hosts in the first half at Vaduz.

But Al-Nassr’s Ronaldo, 38, hit the post and then smashed home from Diogo Jota’s through ball in the first minute of the second period.

The second goal came from Joao Cancelo, and Goncalo Ramos’ effort was disallowed.

The Portuguese have scored ten goals this season despite Ronaldo leaving Manchester United for the Saudi league.

The previous men’s goalscoring world record was held by Ali Daei with 108 goals for Iran.

Another team in Group J, Slovakia, qualified for Euro 2024 in second place behind Portugal with a 4-2 win over Iceland.

Luxembourg – who will be in next year’s play-offs – beat Savo Milosevic’s Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-1.
