Having won an England T20 cap against West Indies in 2022, the 26-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the club.

Brighton-born Garton has been with his boyhood club since under-10 level, but his only career success has been with Southern Brave in the inaugural Men’s Hundred.

During Garton’s time at Sussex, he worked under Bears first-team coach Mark Robinson. Having known Mark Robinson for a long time, he is eager to work with him.

My best years as a player are yet to come, and I still have huge ambitions.

“The club has a great record of winning trophies, and I hope to contribute to winning more.”

Both white-ball and red-ball cricket have been signed up for Garton.

During his eight seasons at Hove, he has played only 26 first-class matches.

However, he has extensive white-ball experience, having played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash, Joburg Super Kings in the SA20, and Abu Dhabi T10.

Despite missing the 2018 T20 Blast final defeat by Worcestershire, he managed to make it to Edgbaston with Sussex for Finals Day in 2021, when they lost to eventual winners Kent in the semi-final.
