Ofcom rules breached over Richard Tice interview

On 16 June, former Brexit MEP Martin Daubney was presenting Laurence Fox’s now-defunct show and was discussing immigration policy with Mr Tice.

Mr Tice’s views were not sufficiently challenged by the regulator, and “the limited alternative views presented were discounted”.

The content was not compliant, according to GB News.

Ofcom investigated after receiving a complaint about the programme earlier this year.

According to GB News, the production team had intended to preserve impartiality by challenging questions during the interview, but this did not happen sufficiently. The company apologized for the breaches.

In introducing the story, Daubney, a former deputy leader of the Reform Party, said the government “has lost the plot on illegal immigration”.

In addition, he questioned the effectiveness of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Stop the Boats policy, saying it could “get a lot worse if Labour comes to power because Keir Starmer, like Rishi, loves to talk tough on borders, but like Rishi, he’ll be another chocolate teapot”.

“We don’t know who walks among us. Some may genuinely be fleeing war zones, but they could have claimed asylum in France.”

Afterward, he said, “Today we say, it’s time to declare a state of emergency, close our borders to illegals, and make Britain safe again,” before inviting the audience to share their thoughts.
