For medical reasons, Abbington, 51, missed last weekend’s Sherlock and Mr Selfridge, but was expected to return next week.

The last time Abbington appeared on the show, she scored 31 with a quick-footed foxtrot to Fleetwood Mac’s Everywhere.

Weeks before the start of the series, she was struck down by food poisoning.

Fleur East, host of It Takes Two, read out a statement from the show’s organizers on Monday.

Amanda Abbington has decided to withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing and the show wishes her all the best in the future.

“Amanda, we are sending you all our love,” East said after playing a clip of Abbington’s best moments.

Despite missing last Saturday’s show, Abbington shared a picture of depressed actor Robin Williams on social media after missing the show. She is paired with professional Italian dancer Giovanni Pernice.

The message was accompanied by the words: “People fake depression… they fake being okay. Remember that. Be kind.”

This series, Les Dennis, Nikita Kanda, Jody Cundy, and Eddie Kadi have been voted off Strictly.
