Social media users have a new nickname for 90-year-old Republican Senator Chuck Grassley the ultimate matchmaker.

Grassley said in a social media post on Monday he had just attended the weddings of two of his employees, Jennifer Heins, chief of staff, and Nick Davis, former aide.

The congressman’s first office wedding wasn’t his first.

His office had witnessed the marriage of 20 couples since he had met them.

At the ceremony in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mr. Grassley and his wife of 69 years, Barbara, shared a photo of themselves with the newlyweds.

Singles in the Washington, DC, area were quickly drawn to the senator’s claim – which often featured pictures of his corn farm on his social media accounts.

Several joked that they intended to ditch dating apps in favor of working for legislators.

He was dubbed “Chuckster the ultimate DC matchmaker” by another.

In the wake of the death of California Senator Dianne Feinstein, Mr. Grassley has become the oldest member of Congress. In 2018, he was elected to his eighth term representing Iowa after serving in office for 48 years.

The Republican Senator has not commented on his matchmaking abilities, but he is said to face stiff competition from Chuck Schumer, the Democratic Senate Majority Leader.

Mr Schumer’s spokesperson told the New York Times in 2016 that there had been 13 Schumers married and 14 Schumers born.
