In recent remarks, the former president called prosecutors “thugs” and attacked a witness in the case as “gutless”.

In order to avoid a “pre-trial smear campaign,” Judge Tanya Chutkan issued a limited gag order against Mr Trump.

Trump’s spokesperson called the ruling “another partisan knife”.

Earlier this year, the Republican presidential frontrunner was charged with attempting to overturn his loss to Democratic rival Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

He was charged with four counts: conspiracy to defraud the US, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against citizens’ rights.

Molly Gaston, a government lawyer, argued in court on Monday that the defendant cannot intentionally try this case in public opinion.

As a result, Judge Chutkan was left in the awkward position of balancing the right to free speech of a political candidate with the need to protect legal proceedings.

The judge repeatedly reminded Mr Trump’s team that, as a criminal defendant, he does not have the right to say or do whatever he wants.

She claims Mr Trump called Mr Smith “deranged” and called her “a radical Obama hack and a biased Trump hater”.

As a result of his attacks on others, including the special counsel’s wife and a court worker in his civil fraud case in New York, she was “deeply disturbed.”

As a result of his post that included her name, photograph, and social media account, Mr. Trump faces a partial gag order in that case.
