EU parliamentarians make accidental stop at Disneyland

The European Parliament’s train from Brussels to Strasbourg ended up at Disneyland Paris instead, surprising hundreds of members and staff. A special train transports MEPs between Brussels and Strasbourg once a month.

However, due to a signaling error on Monday, they briefly saw rollercoasters.

As one MEP put it: “We are not a Mickey Mouse parliament.”

Despite the mix-up, some said it highlighted the need to stay in Belgium to conduct business instead of traveling to the north-eastern French city.

Pelle Geertsen, press aide to a Danish MEP, asked if a new Disneyland could be a suitable use for the Strasbourg buildings.

Because the delay lasted just 45 minutes, the MEPs and their aides weren’t able to sample the rides.

As the train approached the greater Paris region, SNCF reported a track signalling error had caused it to miss an interconnection line.

Strasbourg was eventually put back on track
