An ExxonMobil executive who heads up the business unit that’s involved in a potential $60 billion mega-merger with Pioneer Natural Resources was arrested late last week in Texas for allegedly committing sexual assault.

ExxonMobil Upstream Vice President David Scott was arrested at 9:24 am CT on Thursday at a La Quinta Inn & Suites hotel in Magnolia, Texas, on a sexual assault charge, according to Montgomery County, Texas, jail records. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports that Scott is being held on a $30,000 bond.

Last Thursday, deputies dispatched to the La Quinta Inn spoke with a woman who said she was sexually assaulted by a man in one of the hotel rooms, according to a sheriff’s office statement. Scott, 49, was interviewed by deputies, who then arrested him for sexual assault, a second degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

The hotel is located about 17 miles southwest of ExxonMobil’s headquarters.

Employees, officers, and directors of ExxonMobil are responsible for adhering to the highest standards of integrity and conduct, according to an Exxon spokesperson. Our company is aware of the allegations and cannot comment on a personal matter, however, this individual will not continue to perform work duties while the investigation is underway.”

The Wall Street Journal reports that Exxon is in talks to buy US shale giant and rival Pioneer Natural Resources for nearly $60 billion.
