The frantic Delhi bustle is impossible to stop, but the men in green made the cricketing world pause and take notice with their 102-run victory over Sri Lanka.

Is it finally their time?

Before traveling to India, they came from 2-0 down to beat Australia in a series.

Five of their batters – Quinton de Kock, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, and David Miller – are ranked in the top 15 of the world rankings, but rankings can be misleading.

However, this was their statement.

Bavuma’s men have shown they are serious contenders by scoring 428-5, the highest score ever at a World Cup. Their ability to post a record score in an innings that just got better and better was impressive.

As a result of the early loss of Bavuma, De Kock and Van der Dussen played like they were batting in Shaheedi Park behind the Arun Jaitley Stadium, which would later become the target in the six-hitting match.

In 17.1 overs, they added the first 100 runs of their 204-run partnership, before launching the ball into the stands as the next 104 came in 13.3.

A sparse crowd grew into an excitable din as the score increased.

South Africa’s veteran left-hander De Kock, who has failed to win six 50-over and T20 World Cups, reached his 18th one-day century on Sunday. Despite his success in the Indian Premier League, the 30-year-old is not the only star in South Africa’s XI.
