People are posting AI-generated yearbook pictures
People are leaning into childhood nostalgia and creating school yearbook photos thanks to the newest AI-powered social media trend. Free photo editing app Epik offers a ’90s-style yearbook photo edit that has gone viral on Instagram and TikTok.
Epik is currently the top trending free app in the App Store due to its popularity. The program can be downloaded for free, but to create your own ’90s-inspired yearbook photos, you will have to pay.
Open the Epik app and you’ll see the AI Yearbook option, along with a disclaimer that says “AI results may not always be satisfactory.” Some of them aren’t. Todd did not look like a few of the pictures.
The app offers two paid tiers based on wait times: the standard tier costs $5.99 and will generate photos within 24 hours, and the express tier costs $9.99 and will generate photos within two hours. A standard tier was available for $3.99 on Thursday, and an express tier was available for $5.99.
In both tiers, 60 yearbook pictures are generated based on 8-12 photos that the user uploads. Pictures are divided into categories, such as “best dressed” and “most athletic.”
It says you can’t upload photos of children and that after the yearbook pictures are generated, anything you upload is deleted from the servers.
In response to a “rapid increase in users,” some people are experiencing delayed wait times to use the service. The app is urging some to try again later.
