Earlier this week, Apple released a software update to fix customer complaints about the latest iPhone 15 models running hot.

The new iPhones ran hot due to a combination of bugs in iOS 17, bugs in apps, and a temporary setup period that required extra processing.

As a result of iOS 17 bugs, apps bugs, and a temporary set-up period, Apple said the new iPhones were running hot.

User complaints appear on Apple’s forums, Reddit, and social media after Apple released the new iPhone 15 models earlier this month. There was also a mention of the iPhone 15 Pro Max getting hot in a review of the new iPhone Pros.

I just got the iPhone 15 Pro today and it’s so hot I can’t even hold it! A commentator on Apple’s forums wrote this.

Designed to make them easier to repair, Apple’s new high-end iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have titanium enclosures and aluminum frames. According to Apple, the titanium chassis design had nothing to do with the new models’ overheating.

Apple instead cites bugs with specific apps and an iOS bug that can be resolved with software updates. A forthcoming iOS 17 update will not affect performance, according to Apple.

Using graphics-heavy apps or games, streaming high-quality video, or setting up from a backup, users may notice phones feeling warmer. It’s normal for devices to get warm when heavily used, and iPhones don’t display a temperature warning if they’re not hot.
