England fast bowler set to sign new Sussex contract

Head coach Paul Farbrace told Radio Sussex: “We are pretty close to announcing that he has extended his contract.

As a result of a draw against Derbyshire in their penultimate game and a 12-point penalty for receiving four penalty notices, Sussex will once again play in Division Two next season.

Injuries have prevented Robinson from playing at the end of the campaign, which is “frustrating,” Farbrace says.

“You want your England players to be part of your plans,” Farbrace said.

During the Ashes, he got injured and missed the last two games.

As part of the ECB’s preparation for the Test series, he has been doing specific fitness work with all of their players.

Because of the [50-over] World Cup, they have almost a six-month window to work on his fitness.

Sadly, he hurt his bowling hand in the gym, which has prevented him from being available for his final two games. But that is part of playing for England.”

Against Gloucestershire on Tuesday (10:30 BST), Sussex concludes their County Championship campaign at home.
