On the first day of a week-long special session of parliament, the MPs spoke.

The new parliament building was inaugurated by Mr Modi in May, but no business has been conducted there yet.

Afterwards, the old parliament’s legacy will be celebrated at an event in the new building on Tuesday.

Opposition leaders criticize the government for failing to disclose all the matters that will be discussed at the special session.

During the session, eight bills are scheduled to be discussed – but this agenda may change or expand throughout the week.

During the winter session of parliament later this year, MPs will gather for a special session to discuss these bills.

There are three sessions of parliament in India each year – a budget session, a monsoon session, and a winter session.

During Monday’s special session, Mr Modi commemorated the legacy of India’s parliament since 1947, when it became independent. In celebration of India’s 75th anniversary of independence, the government held several events.

It was an “emotional moment” for Modi to leave the old parliament, as it was filled with special memories and would continue to inspire future generations.

He also mentioned India’s successful Moon landing and hosting of the G20 summit as the most important achievements of this parliament.

In addition to recalling the old parliament, opposition leaders criticized Mr Modi’s government for not answering questions and targeting political rivals.

According to Mr Modi, the special session may be short but will include “historic decisions”.
