During a search and rescue mission in Morocco, firefighters spoke of the “devastation” caused by the earthquake.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service members Dom Moore, Brad Rebbeck, Jim Chaston, and Jamie Muddle helped after Friday’s 6.8 magnitude earthquake.

There have been at least 2,900 deaths reported.

An aerial video shows the crew moving rubble and rescuing a dog in a rural area near the High Atlas Mountains.

“The scenes we’ve seen so far have been really devastating,” said Mr Muddle, who provided water and care for the dog.

As the quake hit, a lot of the rocks, earth, and rubble from the mountain slid down onto the villages, so most of the villages we’ve been to have been built into the mountain sides.

“There was a lot of destruction, and there was a lot of distress and loss of life.”

In the areas we have been searching so far, we have seen villages that are completely destroyed, buildings that have collapsed, and devastation across the countryside.”

UKISAR (UK International Search and Rescue Team) received support from the four technical firefighters on the ground.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey in February, and crew manager Mr Rebbeck said their deployment had been “completely different” from work in Turkey.
