National Book Awards drop star as host over strike row

According to the talk show host and actress, the show’s return will follow strike regulations.

After filming resumed, the show’s writers pickedeted the studio in New York.

The National Book Foundation rescinded her invitation to host Friday’s ceremony on Tuesday.

As stated in a statement, “the National Book Awards celebrate literature’s power and the incomparable contributions of writers to our culture.”

As a result of the announcement that The Drew Barrymore Show will resume production, the National Book Foundation has withdrawn Ms Barrymore’s invitation to host the 74th National Book Awards Ceremony [in New York]. Her work championing books on her show had previously been lauded by National Book Foundation bosses.

Since May, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has been on strike over pay, conditions, and AI use, with actors joining them in July.

In solidarity with the striking WGA members, Barrymore stepped down as host of the MTV Film and TV Awards.

The star, however, said she made a “choice to come back for the first time during this strike for our show, that may have my name on it, but it is more than just me”.
