Door remains open for Harry Brook – Matthew Mott

White-ball coach Matthew Mott believes Harry Brook could still be called into England’s 50-over World Cup squad.

As Luke Wright said at the time, England’s initial squad would travel to India, Brook was left out of the provisional squad.

The 24-year-old then made four in Tuesday’s T20 series against New Zealand following his century in The Hundred. He also made 48 not out and 67 in the 48-over series against Pakistan.

“When players miss out on a squad, what you want to see is them come out and slam that door down,” Mott said.

As I thought at the start of this series, and with The Hundred, he really made a statement.”

He has all those good things going for him.

There will be plenty of good cricket played in the next month, so we’ll see what the final squad looks like.”

New Zealand will play four one-day internationals against England’s provisional World Cup squad starting on Friday.

Mott said Brook would be in the squad to play the three ODIs against Ireland that follow. Brook is not part of that group.

“I think the guys in that 15 have had the first crack at it, but, as we’ve mentioned throughout, we’ll monitor and see how the players are doing and make adjustments if necessary.”.
