The Powerball jackpot swelled to an estimated $1.55 billion for Monday night’s drawing after weeks with no grand prize winner.

According to Powerball’s website, the new mammoth prize is the third largest Powerball jackpot and the fourth largest among US lottery jackpots.

Powerball said that if a player matches all six numbers to win the jackpot, they will have the option of receiving an annuitized prize worth $1.55 billion or a lump sum payment worth $679.8 million.

After no ticket matched all six numbers drawn, 47, 54, 57, 60, 65 and red Powerball 19, the grand prize grew Saturday.

Since July 19, when a single ticket sold in California won a grand prize worth $1.08 billion, there have been no Powerball jackpot winners.

With the upcoming drawing, this jackpot run will reach its 35th drawing. This is the first time in Powerball’s history that back-to-back cycles have generated billion-dollar prizes.

The last drawing Saturday did not result in a jackpot winner, but there were still some big wins.

There were ten tickets that matched five numbers across California, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin that won $1 million prizes.

Two more tickets, sold in Iowa and Maine, matched all five white balls and won $2 million each after their holders activated a “power play” multiplier.

The odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9, but 1 in 292.2 million are the chances of winning the jackpot, according to Powerball.

The largest Powerball jackpot ever won was $2.04 billion in November 2022, followed by $1.586 billion in January 2016.
